Led by our specialist Speech and Language Therapists, these groups are open to anyone to book on. They take place in our spacious therapy room; this warm and friendly environment creates wonderful learning opportunities through a mix of structured activities and social play.

About the Groups

Toddler Talking Group
This group is for children aged 18 months to three years and can help with attention and listening, play, understanding and using language and social interaction with others. We focus on early developmental milestones including developing language, social communication skills and cognitive skills.

Sessions are weekly and last for 1 hour:

  • 30 minutes of focused language activities
  • 15 minutes of social play guided by the therapist
  • 15 minutes of feedback to parents/opportunities for questions

The group is kept small to ensure each child benefits from individual attention from the clinician, around 4-5 children to each clinician.

Pre-school Talking Group
This group is for 3-4 year olds who will benefit from extra support with skills such as attention and listening, understanding and using language and social interaction with others.

We focus on helping your child learn the language skills needed to continue to learn and grow as they prepare to start school. For example, being able to follow classroom instructions, understand concepts, learning to read and write, and interacting with others.

Sessions are weekly and last for 1 hour:

  • 30 minutes of focused language activities
  • 15 minutes of social play guided by the therapist
  • 15 minutes of feedback to parents/opportunities for questions

The group is kept small to ensure each child benefits from individual attention from the clinician (4-5 children to each clinician).

Lego Group
This group is for all ages. It is for children with language delay or social communication difficulties.

Lego Therapy is an extremely effective and motivating way for children to learn key language and social communication skills. The group provides children with opportunities to communicate and interact with each other. We aim to develop:

  • Social interaction skills, using motivating group activities
  • Shared attention, turn taking, negotiation and problem-solving skills
  • Different language concepts, including prepositions, colours and shapes

Sessions are weekly and last 1 hour:

  • The Speech and Language Therapist works with the children in groups of three
  • The children are introduced to the Lego rules and each is given a job role
  • The group must work together to complete a Lego model
  • The therapist will provide support and prompts for each of the children to develop key skills.

Each child is given a different role in the next session so that every child gets to do each job. The therapist records each child’s progress in each of the skill areas to track progress.
