Supporting Children Who Stammer In The Classroom - a practical guide for teachers and parents

For some reason we have had a big increase in the number of stammering referrals we have received this month.  A couple of weeks ago Marianne wrote a post giving some tips for communicating with a child who stammers.   This week, I have produced a factsheet (click to download) guide for teachers on supporting children who stammer in the classroom.  The factsheet  includes:

Girl playing fun
  • signs to look out for, especially for children who are ‘hiding’ a stammer

  • what you can expect from the child

  • practical tips for encouraging participation in class

  • managing bullying and teasing

  • building confidence

  • what to avoid

Although aimed at teachers, the factsheet will be useful to parents too.
