Kirsty is an experienced speech and language therapist working with children from 0-19 with a wide range of communication needs and feeding difficulties. Kirsty has worked across a variety of settings including community clinics, preschool teams, special schools and a children’s hospital.
How Kirsty can help
Kirsty specialises in the assessment and treatment of children with mild to profound language and communication difficulties, dysphagia (swallowing difficulties) and sensory behavioural feeding difficulties (including children with Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID)).
She is well-versed in supporting children and their families with social communication needs, language delay and disorder, feeding difficulties and supporting non-verbal or less verbal children who require Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) support.
Kirsty is available for clinic appointments and home visits on Saturdays. She believes in close parent/carer collaboration and multi-professional working to help each child reach their full potential.
Kirsty’s training includes:
SCERTS – an approach which supports children with autism and social communication difficulties.
Attention Autism – an interactive approach to support attention and listening, language and interaction skills.
Makaton – a key word signing system used to promote the development of spoken language and initiation skills which uses speech and gesture, facial expression, eye contact and body language.
Practical Management of Eating and Drinking Difficulties (Specialist Dysphagia Practitioner Level) – The assessment and treatment of children with eating, drinking and swallowing difficulties.
COMFOR – An assessment of symbolic understanding – supporting children to understand and communicate at their level of sense making.
Palin PCI – The assessment and treatment of children who stammer.
Talk About – Supporting social skills of children with social communication difficulties.
